Financial Straight Talk & Real Conversations

Less

When I decided to launch The Smart Money Gal blog (which will eventually incorporate a podcast), it was out of a need to connect on a more personal level with my clients, friends, and members of my community. In my role at Swan Financial, I meet people every day who do not know where to start when it comes to talking about money and how to best prepare for their financial future. It can be overwhelming and can often put people in a vulnerable state, which is not a comfortable place to be. I hope to change that. I want to make hard conversations easy,  break the cycle of procrastination and help people focus on what they can control instead of dwelling on what they cannot.

Our mission at Swan Financial is to equip our clients with the education & tools necessary to make smart money decisions for themselves and their families.  This blog is for those who are looking to have real conversations,  tackle serious topics and are motivated to take the necessary steps to plan for the life they have always dreamed of. We want to help you live Empowered

 Happy reading-
I look forward to connecting with you!

Weekly Market Update-September, 21, 2020

temp-post-image

U.S. stocks closed down last week, driven by weakness in technology stocks. It is hard to exaggerate the significant influence that tech stocks have had over the markets in this present economic environment. Notably, although more than 70% of the S&P 500 stocks were higher last week, the index closed lower for the third week in a row because of the drag in the technology sector. Positively speaking, cyclical, small-cap and international stocks and oil all did well, finishing positive for the week. Overall, the S&P 500 was off by .6% (driven down by tech) and the Dow finished flat.

It is very important to remember that the S&P 500 tracks just 500 publicly traded companies, with the Dow trac...

The Race to a Vaccine

temp-post-image

A U.S. drug company recently said that it’s in late-stage trials for its coronavirus vaccine and reported that it could be given to Americans as early as the end of the year.[i]

Great news. But it seems like every few days there’s a new update on a clinical trial for COVID-19. So we took the opportunity to check out the overall status for the development of a vaccine.

Much to our surprise, we learned that more than 150 vaccines are in development across the world. Hopes are high that at least one of these vaccines can be brought to market in record time to help manage the global crisis.[ii]

In the past, it has taken 10 to 15 years to develop a vaccine that’s ready for the ...

RARE 2nd Chance to De-Risk Your Portfolio-ACT NOW!

temp-post-image

As we’ve all adapted to life during a pandemic this year, a lot has changed. Yet some things remain the same. One thing that has not changed is the crucial need to make sure you don’t run out of money in retirement.

If your portfolio took a hit back in February and March, you know how scary it can feel to suddenly see 30% of the assets you expect to live off of in retirement suddenly disappear. It’s a bad feeling. Fortunately, as the markets have recovered over the last few months, you now have a rare opportunity – a second chance – to make sure your retirement is protected.

This year, we’ve seen how quickly things can change and how quickly assets at ris...
